Cekirdek is credited as the first specialty coffee shop on the Asian side of Istanbul, opened in Moda by Tunca Ozgurer who is widely recognised for bringing third-wave coffee culture to Kadikoy. The tiny space on Sair Latifi Sokak holds just a few tables and a small roaster, but the craft is serious and the hours are early. Both Western filter methods and traditional Turkish coffee are approached with equal care.
