Czech Republic · 26 hand-picked cafés
Prague has built one of Central Europe's most serious specialty coffee scenes from the ground up, anchored by Doubleshot, the roastery that began direct-trading and roasting in 2010 and seeded an entire generation of baristas, cafes, and roasters across the city. Today the scene spans every district: Vinohrady and Dejvice offer polished neighborhood anchors like La Boheme Cafe, Monolok, and Mazelab's minimalist tasting studio; Holesovice and Letna serve a more industrial-creative crowd through Vnitroblock, Dos Mundos, Cafe Hrnek, and Letec Espresso Bar; while Karlin's rapid gentrification has turned Muj salek kavy and Eska into daily institutions.
The 2024 European Coffee Trip Awards confirmed what locals already knew: Mazelab took first place nationally, Cafe Hrnek claimed fourth, and EMA espresso bar continued its run as one of the most-loved multi-roaster bars in the city. Third-wave values run deep here, with a majority of cafes sourcing from identifiable Czech and European micro-roasters rather than commodity suppliers.
What distinguishes Prague's scene from its Western European peers is a combination of craft seriousness and genuine community warmth. You will find Kees van der Westen machines, La Marzocco Stradas, rotating single-origin lots, and careful filter work alongside kitchen-baked pastries, all-day brunch plates, and spaces where the wifi is fast and the second cup is as welcome as the first.
