Kalu

Kalu is a gourmet kitchen and all-day cafe sharing its Barrio Escalante compound with Cafeoteca, the specialty roaster operated by the same founders. The cafe program draws on Cafeoteca''s weekly-roasted single-estate Costa Rican beans, paired with a full food menu that blends Mediterranean, Asian, and local-criolla influences. The setting is a gracious 1950s house with a shaded courtyard that turns into prime outdoor seating on clear San Jose mornings. It is one of the few spots in the city where serious coffee craft and serious kitchen work sit at the same table without either feeling like an afterthought.
